Broccoli and Beef
Why does broccoli always look misspelled?
If you want a yummy home-cooked meal, like ASAP, then make this recipe (adapted from Use Real Butter’s Recipe).
Note to self: Improve photography skills…
Look, you throw it all in one pan, so easy!
The final product:
Here’s what you’ll need:
1 head of broccoli
3/4 lb flank steak
5 slices ginger
4 stalks green onions, sliced into 1 inch pieces
3 cloves garlic, sliced
3 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp sesame oil
2 tsp soy sauce
1 tbsp peanut oil
My order of operations for this meal is to start the rice, slice and start marinating the beef, steam the broccoli, and then cook the beef. I don’t like my broccoli too mushy, nor too crunchy… ummm, I guess you’d say I like it perfectly cooked then. Thus, I add about an inch of water to a pot, throw in one of those metal steamer baskets (I paid too much at Williams Sonoma for the equivalent item at Target). I throw in the cut broccoli, turn heat to high, throw lid on and steam for, oh about 3 minutes. Then I turn the heat off, but leave the lid on for some extra steam time while I fry the beef. I then heat up a pan, add 1 tbps. of peanut oil, add the garlic, green onions, and ginger and stir fry until fragant. That’s when I add the beef (including what little sauce that remains). I cook until the meat is no longer pink, turn the heat off, then stir in the broccoli. I keep the pan on the burner, though, so that it can absorb the residual heat- heating up the broccoli a little bit more. Serve with rice or whatever you please.
